Rowlands Castle Scarecrow Trail 2014
Saturday 4th October – Sunday 11th October.
“My / Our Favourite Book Character/s”
Everyone has a book they have loved to read, with a character, they just
never forget. This may be a family favourite read to the children every
night or a childhood memory. It could be a Harry Potter character or
“The Hungry Caterpillar, maybe a character from an earlier decade, “Just
William”, “Tin tin” or the mysterious Sherlock Holmes. The ideas are
endless and you need to start planning now as it is only 7 weeks away.
Don't be concerned that the scarecrows need to be works of arts – they
don't - it is just about having fun. Feedback from trail followers who
have done this in other villages is that they thoroughly enjoyed walking
around the village and looking at all the scarecrows.
Duplicate characters are not allowed but by completing an entry form and
paying the £10.00 entry fee you can reserve your chosen scarecrow. The
entries need to be in by 8th Sept. Please print off
both the
Entry Form
and the Competition Rules
and Guidelines. There are also
Instructions
that can be downloaded.
Go on, Build a Scarecrow and Join in the Fun!
St Johns School Outdoor Learning Working Group is organising this
Scarecrow Trail as a community event in Rowlands Castle. The pupils of
St Johns School have the opportunity to work with an outside artist from
‘Making Spaces ‘to create scarecrows to be displayed at the school and
from this came the idea to extend the scheme to the village.
A Scarecrow Trail is a fun community project for all to enjoy. You can
get involved either as a Scarecrow maker or come along and follow the
trail. Members of the public, local businesses and organisations will
make scarecrows and display them during the week of the trail. During
this week trail sheets will be available, with a map, showing where all
the scarecrows are. There will be a competition to guess the book the
character comes from with a prize for the most correct answers.
Prizes will also be awarded to the best three scarecrows. The
week of the trail will culminate in a display of scarecrows made by the
pupils of St Johns and by local organisations. This will be held at St
Johns School on the weekend of 11th/12th Oct when
prizes will also be awarded.
