The time has arrived and the Poppy Appeal 2027 launches tomorrow. I happen to know, from my Area Manager that there is almost £3k in the East Hampshire kitty already from Wreath sales and QR code donations so, as an area, we are already out of the blocks.
I thought you might be interested in what is going on both locally and around the country during the Appeal Week.
*National Launch. *Please *l*ook out for the TV coverage tomorrow. They will be starting early in Manchester, where the Director of the Poppy Appeal, Lucy Inskip, will be handing the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham the first Poppy in Number 10 North – there should be news coverage of this first thing. The roadshow will carry on to North Wales to meet with families, to the Battle Back Centre in Shropshire to meet Veterans who are rehabilitating there and then to London. It should all end in London for the One Show.
*Hampshire and Isle of Wight Launch. *As well as this, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Team will be launching the appeal in West Quay Shopping Centre, Southampton at 11am with the Royal Marines abseiling from the roof. Tune in to BBC Solent and also the South Today programme.
*National Advertising. *For 2026 the Royal British Legion advertising is focusingon the theme of “*Parallel Lives”*, highlighting an important truth. When someone serves, their family serves too. Through the story of a serving soldier and his son, this advertising campaign shines a light on the shared experiences, sacrifices and challenges faced by Armed Forces families, while reinforcing the RBL’s commitment to supporting serving personnel, veteransand their loved ones throughout their lives.
Alongside this, there will be direct fundraising appeal featuring *Chantelle Wynn*. The film shares Chantelle’s experience of losing her husband, Ryan, and the profound impact this had on their family. It explores the challenges they faced following the end of Ryan’s military service and highlights the support the RBLprovided to help Chantelle and her daughters rebuild their lives after his death.’ I have seen the advertising and it is very powerful.
I cannot finish without thanking all the Poppy Appeal Volunteers in Rowlands Castle who will be manning the stand outside Londis from Saturday 31^st October until Tuesday 10^th November their generous and selfless support to this worthy charity is very much appreciated. Also, a big thank you to all those businesses in the Parish who have taken boxes of poppies and collecting tins on behalf of the appeal.
