Dear Residents,
I have received the notification below from Hampshire County Council regarding impending road works on in the village. Location is near the bridleway opposite Prospect Lane.
I am writing to inform you that Hampshire County Council has appointed Rocon Contractors Ltd to deliver highway improvement works at the village entry gateway on Whichers Gate Road. The works will include the construction of a new road build out with a cycle bypass, designed to allow cyclists to pass safely around the narrowed section. The scheme will also introduce priority for eastbound traffic leaving the village. In addition, the works will involve the installation of bollards, signage, kerbing and new road markings on Whichers Gate Road.
The night works are scheduled to start on 5 May 2026 for approximately two weeks, Monday to Friday, permitted working hours 7pm to 6am. The works are being undertaken at night to minimise disruption to daytime traffic, as well as ensuring the safety of road users and the workforce.
Due to the nature of the planned works, there will be noisy activity at times, and we will attempt to complete noisier activities in the earlier part of the night where possible. Advance warning signs will be in place prior to the works starting. Emergency vehicle access will be available at all times. Pedestrian access on the footpath will be maintained throughout the duration of the works. The works are weather dependent and may need to be re-arranged at short notice in the event of adverse weather.
