Dear friends
A few days ago, the RCHH History Boards were put up on the Station, literally, 2 on the front, 5 on the upline to London and 5 on the downline to Portsmouth. Why you ask? well 2025 is the 200-year celebration of the English Railway system, designated as Railway 200 ( railway200.co.uk )
Similar displays have been put up at many Stations throughout England, the 12 are all different, showing by word and pictures information as to how the Railway and our Station changed the Village and the surrounding area, as from 1859 until now. We have already had many favourable comments from regular travellers who use the train, so we would like to let you know you do not have to be going on a journey, just pop up to have a look and a read of them. We are sure you will find them to be of interest and informative? So well worth the walk up there. please let us know your thoughts after you have been?
Just one note of caution, a least 1 train an hour goes North & South without stopping, at a pace, so please remain behind the Yellow Line, particularly if you have younger children with you, when on the platforms.
A few days after we had a small formal ‘reveal’; a senior manager from SWR, a director from the Hampshire Community Railway, (HCR) plus a few of our local businesses who had supported us in our fund raising to pay for the boards, gathered for a few words followed by a tour of both platforms to view the Boards. Luckily all were more than pleased with our efforts, giving us the Thums-up for our efforts, (sorry blowing our own trumpet I know, but we are proud of what we have achieved!)
We are just about to formally Adopt the Station with the blessing of SWR and the HCR which means we will be able to make better use of the Station, we have plans to add some planting along the verge on Platform 2 more bulbs & wild flowers, plus work alongside a company, Making Space, who are planning to lease the old living quarters with small Craft Workshops, and if allowed we may be able to use the Ticket Hall say at weekends to put on small pop-up museums from time to time.
Keep up to date on our social media & Website, www.rchc.org.uk for further information and events.
Our compliments of the season and wishing you all a Healthy New Year
Thank you
