Dear Readers, The Government have initiated a consultation until 11 Jan 26 on the proposed Local Government Reform for Hampshire and the IoW and there are 4 proposals to be considered from Hampshire County Council, the 11 District & Borough Councils and Portsmouth & Southampton Unitary Authorities (UA), in various combinations, which are the subject of this consultation. I have produced a high-level summary brief for my fellow councillors to aid our deliberations and it is available for all residents to read at

This is a very important consultation. One of the 4 proposals has our parish and 3 others incorporated within the proposed UA encompassing Fareham, Gosport, Havant and Portsmouth, which the Parish Council strongly opposes. We previously supported the proposal put forward by HCC and EHDC together as being financially sensible and produced with due regard to the Government guidance. That is another of the 4 proposals set out for consideration. The Parish Council will discuss this consultation at our next meeting on Monday 1st Dec to progress our response. I strongly encourage all residents to read the brief and to actively engage with this important online consultation that will affect how we are governed locally in the future.
