POPPY APPEAL WEEK 2025

*ROYAL BRITISH LEGION – POPPY APPEAL WEEK 2025*
This year’s Poppy Appeal, organised by the Royal British Legion, will run from Saturday 1^st November until Tuesday 11^th November.
As in previous years, I and a team of volunteers will be manning a stand outside Londis offering a wide range of poppy appeal items to raise funds for this worthy charity which seeks to recall and repay the sacrifice of so many men and women of the Armed Services both past and present. It offers they, and their families physical, mental and financial support when needed.
There will be two main events during the week, the first is the Remembrance Service at 10.00 on Sunday 9^th November at St John the Baptist; led by Rev’d Clare Challis. This will be followed by an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying at the village’s War Memorial by the church.
On Tuesday 11^th November at 11.00, there will be a further Act of Remembrance on the Green. This marks the Armistice and the hour of effective end of the First World War. It will be a much simpler event, the sounding of the Last Post, during which the Flag will be lowered to half mast, a two-minute silence, sounding of the Reveille. End with the national anthem. We are grateful to Steve Greenwood who will be the bugler on both occasions.
We could always do with more volunteers to man the poppy stand and this year I have asked Christine Hayward, a Hampshire Poppy Appeal Manager, to give an update and short presentation to volunteers and anyone who would like to learn more about the work of the Royal British Legion and consider becoming a local volunteer. This will take place in the Rowlands Castle Parish Hall, Links Lane on Tuesday 14^th October at 19.00. You are all very welcome.
I’d like to thank everyone for their generous donations over the past many years and hope, that if you are passing the stand outside Londis or going into any local business premises, you will continue your generosity and wear your poppy with pride.
Thank you.
