POPPY APPEAL – UPDATE

Good afternoon
I thoughts some of you may be interested in a short update on how we’re doing with the Poppy Appeal in Rowlands Castle and Finchdean. We are now ending day 5 with 3 more days to go for the stand outside Londis; our street licence runs from 1st to 8th November. However the poppy trays and collecting boxes will remain in the shops, public houses and other sites, within the village, until Tuesday 12th November. Some of you may have noticed the lovely ceramic poppies we have had on our stall and that can be found, and purchased outside 2 Railway Cottages; they are truely exquisit and a portion of each sale is being kindly donated to our fund raising.
As of yesterday evening we have raised an amazing *£3,397.96*! Thank you everyone for your generosity towards this wonderful charity that does so much for serving members of the armed forces, veterans and their families.
As you will remember, from my last Grapevine message there are other events on this week:
Tomorrow evening, in the Castle Inn (thank you Sarah Mayes, aka Maisie), I will be running a Pub Quiz starting at 19.00. With teams of upto 6’ish at £5.00 a head. There will be six short rounds and all the money raised will go to the Royal British Legion. Prizes for the top three teams!
Sunday 9th November is Remembrance Sunday with a service being held at St john the Baptist at 10.00. The service will be conducted by the Rev’s Clare Challis the Priest-in Charge and will be followed by an Act of Remembrance and wreath laying at the War Memorial. Hot drinks will be available in the Church Centre afterwards.
That evening, again in the Castle Inn, there will be a meat raffle organised by Mandy with the meat generously provided by Reeve’s of Clanfield.
Tuesday 11th November is Armistice Day and there will be a short Act of Remembrance by the flagpole on the Green starting at 10.55 ready for the Last Post being sounded at 11.00 and the flag dipped to half mast. Again everyone is welcome.
I think that’s about it, but if you have any questions then I will be at the Stand from 09.00 – 10.00 and 16.00 – 17.00 daily.
Thank you once again and please, wear your poppy with pride.
