The next u3a meeting will take place in the Parish Hall at 2.00 pm on Monday 20th January. Our speaker will be Alan Thorne MSc IEng MRAeS whose talk will centre on his career with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch at Farnborough which he joined in 2008 and where he is currently a Senior Inspector of Air Accidents (Engineering). Alan was a lead engineer on the Shoreham Airshow Accident.

Alan began his career as an apprentice aircraft maintenance engineer with British Airways and then after a period of redeployment as long-haul cabin crew he returned to engineering as a licenced aircraft engineer in a line maintenance role where he worked on most types of aircraft within the BA fleet at the time. He then joined the Corporate Safety Department of BA where he worked for 9 years as Senior Air Safety Investigator before joining the AAIB.

The AAIB investigates civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents within the UK, its overseas territories and crown dependencies and joins international investigations where there is a UK interest.

Hope to see everyone including new members (and visitors £3 at the door) on the day.
