The Rowlands Castle History and Heritage group is a registered charity, with the objective “to advance the education of the public in the history and heritage of the village.” To this end we give monthly talks in the Parish Hall, have created a local history website and we regularly organise local history exhibitions alongside displaying our historic model railway. Over the past year we have taken part in the National Heritage Open Days, given history talks to the local scouts and participated in the National D-day and Railway 200 celebrations. We have launched a mobile phone Heritage Trail and secured funding from EHDC to create a Children’s History Trail, which you may have seen on social media. There are many exciting projects coming up, including a new exhibition for Heritage Open Days in September, and the start of a major archiving project. All of this is undertaken entirely by volunteers, who give of their time and follow their interests to make local history accessible to you. We would love to welcome more volunteers to our organisation. Like many other societies in the village, we need more people to join our management group to help organise our exhibitions and run our activities.
