As we all know this week sees the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, with major events happening locally, in Portsmouth, plus of course over in Normandy. A time of reflection and of remembrance.
The Rowlands Castle Heritage Centre will be adding to these events, particularly over the Armed Forces weekend, 29 & 39 June. Our iconic Model Railway will be on display in the Church-on-the-Green on the Saturday, after the Flag Parade on the Green at 11.00am and then again on the Sunday after the Church Service.
A long side the Mode, which shows how the Village looked back in May/June of 1944, will be some new information Boards with Pictures, Maps, Text, of the D-Day build up in and around the Village. Also there will be an Audio / Visual of interviews from some of the residents recalling their memories of the Troops being billeted in the village and the camps in Stansted Park, along with Military supplies and equipment.
On the Sunday we are hoping to have some of the local organisations, who will have on display, WW2 Artefacts, Memorabilia, etc. plus hopefully some military equipment from that time, on the Green as it was during the build-up. (as I write waiting conformation of what may be coming)
The Model and the display in the Church, will also be on view on Villag Fair Day, Saturday 6th July.
Please do come and visit our tribute to the D-Day Heroes, we look forward to welcoming young and the ‘not-so-young’ alike, where you in the village back then, come a share your thoughts and memories with us? You will be all made most welcome.
Thank you
