Volunteers
There are currently 36 volunteers, of whom 9 are Co-ordinators. All volunteers who drive (you don’t necessarily have to be a driver to be a volunteer) must have a form signed by their Insurance Company which authorizes them to use their car for voluntary work with Rowlands Castle Good Neighbours. Forms are supplied by the Chief Co-ordinator.
It goes without saying that all volunteer drivers must have a valid driving licence, be physically and mentally fit to drive, and their cars must be licensed, insured, roadworthy and with current MOT if applicable. In addition volunteer drivers must be under the age of 80.
Because volunteers may be dealing on a one to one basis with elderly or infirm people and, unusually, with children, all must complete the appropriate disclosure for checking by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) at the Enhanced Level. This is a bureaucratic process which is now insisted upon by the Hampshire Voluntary Care Groups Advisory Service (HCGVAS) under whose umbrella all organisations such as ours are guided.
If you would like to be a volunteer helper (the more there are the less the workload) then ask anyone on the Committee and they will tell you what to do. All suitable applicants are accepted. One can volunteer for as few as two tasks a month.
